About Dr. Bertin’s Practice

Typically completed over the course of two visits, an initial evaluation includes a detailed history along with physical and neurological examinations.   Initial appointments explore psychological, family and educational factors that may be causing concerns.  Developmental tests are used to observe your child’s cognitive, language, motor and academic abilities, or specific aspects of their behavior.   The goal is the creation of as comprehensive picture as possible of your child’s skills.

At the end of the evaluation you will receive a detailed plan discussing, as needed, behavioral management, school placement and related educational services, medical interventions and further testing. Problems such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), autism and Asperger’s have complex effects requiring time and care that goes well beyond medication management.   Dr. Bertin will help you coordinate whatever medical care, academic recommendations, community services and changes at home are most appropriate for your child and your family.  (Of course, not every child evaluated will turn out to have a specific developmental condition; Dr. Bertin will still develop a plan to address your concerns or those of your child’s teachers, caretakers or therapists.)

After this initial evaluation, follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor overall development and, when needed, medication use, as well as for long term guidance in coordinating care for your child’s evolving needs.
