About
the Practice
In addition to a medical
evaluation, initial appointments explore psychological, family and educational factors that may be causing problems. Typically completed over the course of two visits, the evaluation
includes a detailed history along with physical and neurological examinations. Developmental and psychological tests are used
to explore your child’s cognitive, language and motor abilities, academic skills, or specific aspects of their
development and behavior.
At the end of the evaluation you
receive a comprehensive plan discussing, as needed, appropriate medical interventions, behavioral management, school placement,
other related services and further testing when appropriate. Problems such as
attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), autism and Asperger's have complex
effects requiring time and care that goes beyond medication management. Dr. Bertin
will work with you, your pediatrician and other therapists to coordinate medical care, academic recommendations, community
services, and interventions at home.
Follow-up
appointments are scheduled to monitor overall development and, when needed, medication use, as well as for long term guidance
in coordinating care for your child's evolving needs.
